After losing a close one to the Grizzlies at home, the Nets took it easy Monday morning, watching tape and shooting around ate PNY Center before flying to New Orleans to play the Hornets.

Brook Lopez, who seemed more frustrated than anyone after another missed fourth quarter, joked that his opposition Tuesday night, Robin Lopez, was the "worst player in the NBA."

Regarding his fourth quarter benching of Lopez, P.J. Carlesimo admitted, "It's probably something that I don't want to do in the future. I created the situation and it’s not a good situation. So yes, I worry about it that I need to address it and I worry about it that I need to watch what I do going forward."

There was also some talk of playing Lopez and Andray Blatche together up front and Mirza Teletovic at small forward.

Meanwhile, on the injury front, Joe Johnson practiced but is officially questionable. After missing two games, both close losses to playoff teams, he said he "doesn't want to get anybody's hopes up" about playing vs. the soon-to-be Pelicans. Jerry Stackhouse, who hasn't played since January 26, did not accompany the team to New Orleans because of undisclosed personal reasons.

Deron Williams on the other hand downplayed his calf injury. He said it's okay and he will be ready to go. Since the All-Star break, Williams is averaging 20 points and nine assists while shooting 52 percent overall and 44 percent from three. He's also 88 percent from the free thrown line. Williams' three point shooting appears to be contagious. In the last five games, the Nets are shooting 43.9% from three-point range and are averaging 10.8 threes per game. C.J. Watson is shooting 63 percent from deep in that stretch.

For whatever reason, Nets players avoided the media after Sunday's game. Not good

The loss was frustrating, with what sure looked like blown calls and some mystifying on-court combinations. For whatever reason, six rotation players gave beat writers the cold shoulder Sunday night, leaving the locker room before the media was permitted inside.

According to reports, Brook Lopez, Andray Blatche, MarShon Brooks, C.J. Watson, Keith Bogans, and Gerald Wallace did not make themselves available to reporters. Only Deron Williams and Reggie Evans spoke afterwards.

Rod Boone called the locker room as "barren as the Sahara," describing the scene this way...

The general manager escorted the All-Star center who didn't play a single minute in the fourth quarter out of the locker room and to the loading dock.

A few others quickly trickled out behind Billy King and Brook Lopez, scurrying away so they wouldn't have to discuss how things went down in the closing minutes, apparently afraid of getting themselves in trouble for trashing the officiating.

In post game tweets, he and other beat reporters expressed their own frustration.

The Nets go down in a defensive struggle.

In honor of tonight's 85th Academy Awards - the story of tonight's Nets-Grizzlies game told using the nine Best Picture nominees.

Beasts of the Southern Wild

The tough Grizzlies held the Nets to 37% shooting and forced them into 18 turnovers. Marc Gasol took All-Star Brook Lopez out of the game with his physical play.

.

Lincoln

As former Nets announcer Mark Jackson once pointed out, no player more resembles the 16th president than Tayshaun Prince. Prince lit it up for the Grizzlies tonight, scoring 11 points, including some huge shots in the 4th quarter when the Nets were threatening to pull away.

.

Amour

Deron Williams gets the love tonight. He was the only Net to have it going on offense, going 9-15 and scoring 24 in the loss. He led the 4th quarter comeback that fell just short.

.

Django Unchained

"Unchained" from the Nets bench, MarShon Brooks and Mirza Teletovic were big in the 4th quarter. The offense started firing on all cylinders with D-Will and Andray Blatche taking advantage of the extra floor spacing and the Grizzlies suddenly unable to clog things up as they had throughout the rest of the game. They each did miss a big shot down the stretch that could have helped the Nets avoid the defeat. Brooks was only 4-13 for the game, however, and scored 8 points. Teletovic was 2-4 with 5 points, and looked less confused on defense than in previous games.

.

The Life of Pi

Say it aloud, and it sounds like "The Life Up High" - so this is a good place to mention that the Nets outrebounded the Grizzlies 55 to 42 and 17 to 7 on the offensive glass.

.

Zero Dark Thirty

Blatche had 10 points and 7 rebounds. Reggie Evans had 2 points and 14 rebounds. Darrell Arthur put up 2 points and 3 rebounds. Jon Leuer was dark. He did not play.

.

Les Miserables

Brook Lopez had 9 points and 4 rebounds and didn't play in the 4th quarter.

Gerald Wallace had no points, 2 assists and a rebound in over 16 minutes.

The Nets made 5 free throws.

.

Silver Linings Playbook

Joe Johnson should be back soon!

.

Argo

The Nets "Argo"ing to New Orleans to take on the Hornets on Tuesday. The Grizzlies "Argo"ing home to play the Mavericks on Wednesday.

.

- And in a tribute to Marlon Brando's 1972 decision to let others talks on his behalf at the Oscars, about half the rotation were no-shows when the media was allowed in to the locker room.

.

C.J. Watson to start. Why not? He's averaging 17.5 over last four games

It really comes as no surprise: Joe Johnson will again rest his sore heel Sunday vs.the Grizzlies. The Nets announced late Sunday morning that the 6'8" shooting guard will sit out his second straight game. On Wednesday, Johnson said the pain was so bad he had to crawl out of bed.

C.J. Watson is expected to start for the Nets and why not: He's averaging 17.5 points on 57.4 percent overall and 57.1 percent from deep in his last four games.

Also listed as out for the game, Jerry Stackhouse. The stated reason was "rest" but the 18-year veteran hasn't played in a game since January 26.

The biggest trades before the deadline didn't take place Thursday, but three weeks before when Memphis made a series of them. Rudy Gay was dealt by the Grizzlies to Toronto for a package headlined by Ed Davis. In that same deal, Tyshaun Prince arrived from Detroit. So far, it looks like one of those rare deals where both sides won. Both Memphis and Toronto are 7-3 since the deal went down. Gay is helping the Raptors win close games and the Grizzlies don't seem to miss him. They've won six straight and are healthy.

Memphis' calling card is defense. Unlike the Nets last opponent, the Rockets, the Grizzlies are deliberate on offense, fearsome on defense, something that Prince has helped improve. Their plus-4.4 rebounding differential ranks second in the NBA, and they're averaging a plus-7.8 during their streak, which is the league best. They are also particularly effective at defending against points on the paint, ranking fifth. On the other side of ledger, with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, they rank first in putting up points in the paint. They don't shoot many three pointers --they're last in attempts and makes-- and when they do, they are only 24th.

The Nets are hurting. Joe Johnson is questionable, but don't put too much hope in that. Johnson awoke in Milwaukee with enough pain that he had to "crawl out of bed," he told beat writers. Although Johnson was able to play vs the Bucks, Johnson shot just 3-of-14. Similarly, his backcourt mate Deron Williams talked about how his left ankle pain has been excruciating. With Mike Conley Jr., one of the NBA's fastest point guards, Memphis can be expected to take advantage of the Nets woes. If the Nets win, and the Knicks lose, the two teams would wind up in a virtual tie in the Atlantic Division.

The game begins at 7 p.m. It had originally been scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
