Defense was again the issue as the Nets dropped their second game in as many nights at Barclays Center on Friday.

The Nets dropped to 3-2 on the preseason with their second loss in as many nights at the Barclays Center, a 106-96 defeat at the hands of the Sixers.

After a back-and-forth first quarter, the Sixers took control with a 10-0 run midway through the second. They led by eight at the half and by as many as 13 in the third. The Nets got to within a basket on multiple occasions in the second half, but could never tie or take the lead, and Nick Young hit a dagger three to put the Sixers up eight with 31 seconds left in the game.

Defense was again the issue, as the Sixers shot 49 percent from the field and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds. The Nets shot 44 percent, and were just 6-for-21 from three-point range.

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 23 points and nine rebounds, but got blocked by Dorell Wright on a crucial possession down the stretch. Deron Williams added 22 points and Joe Johnson finally shot well at Barclays Center, scoring 18 points on 8-for-15 from the field. But C.J. Watson, Keith Bogans and Kris Humphries combined to shoot just 3-for-18.

Thaddeus Young led seven Sixers in double-figures with 24 points.

The Nets tough week ends Friday, with their fifth game in seven days, their fourth game in five nights and their third game in four nights. The 76ers, Friday's opponent are like the Nets, 3-1, so far in pre-season ... even without Andrew Bynum. And they're averaging 107 points a game.

The Nets will be home again Friday night, when they face the 76ers at Barclays Center. It will be their fourth game in five nights. And in another quirk in the pre-season schedule, the Nets will play only one game before the regular season opener November 1 - next Wednesday against the Knicks at Nassau Coliseum. So, they'll have limited opportunity to work out kinks before the games count.

Like the Nets, the Sixers are 3-1, having lost only to the Nets in the pre-season opener at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Since then, they have beaten the Celtics by 32 and the Cavaliers by 14. They're averaging nearly 107 points a game in pre-season despite not having Andrew Bynum (knee) on the court.

The Sixers strength so far has been their backcourt and their backcourt bench with Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Nick Young and undrafted rookie Maalik Wayns all having at least one good game. Doug Collins is still mixing and matching his lineups and plans on pairing Nick Young with Holiday in Friday’s game. The two haven’t played together much. Turner will be rested.

No word yet on what Avery Johnson is planning in terms of minutes vs. the Sixers. The game will be broadcast on YES and NBA TV, the Nets' third straight nationally televised preseason game.
