Long Island Nets sign Okaro White

Okaro White, the 6’8” Brooklyn-born forward who’s played 44 NBA games over the last three years, has signed with the Long Island Nets, the team announced. Long Island acquired his G League rights last year and he became available when he was waived by the Wizards two weeks ago.

White is a a returning player, not a two-way, according to a league source. The Nets have until January 15 to sign a replacement two-way player after waiving Alan Williams two days ago. Williams is headed to China. He’s reportedly talking to the Xingjiang Flying Tigers in western China.

Long Island also announced that they have requested waivers on center Kendall Gray and guard Kevin Olekaibe, suggesting at least one other move is anticipated for the Nets G League affiliate.

White, a 26-year-old, was waived December 21 so Washington could sign Ron Baker. He had been signed a month earlier. In three games with the Wizards, White played six minutes but did not score.

After going undrafted in 2014, he joined Aris Thessaloniki of the Greek Basket League where he was named to the All-Star team. He joined the Heat in 2016 and played 35 games in the NBA, shuttling between Miami and the Sioux Falls Sky Force. He averaged 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 13 minutes per game. He shot 35.3 percent from three.

Last season, he played with the Heat, was traded to the Hawks and waived. He later joined the Cavaliers.

Don't know anything about him, but I like the idea of signing players who came from the Heat

Miami is similar to Brooklyn in that they excel at finding talent out of nowhere and get all their players to play extremely hard

But he didn't really come from the Heat as much as they got rid of him...

I like when the Nets pick up players from dumb organizations. Harris from Orlando, Din Detroit/Chicago. I guess since White’s last team was Washington there is a chance!

Good signing for Long island though, exciting times for the Nets org at every level.

2020 Finals...

ON…LOCK!!!!

Welcome back to Brooklyn Okaro!

I've always liked Okaro White, a guy I've wanted Brooklyn to snag for a couple years now

He can really play defense.

I also wanted Okaro White and said so about two years ago (before he played in the NBA)

Not sure if he’s a PF or a SF, but he does a little of both….I’ve suggested adding C/PF Zhou Qi (who was dropped by Houston and has an injury history), but it appears he’s back in China (although I don’t think he’s signed anything). He’s the next Yi Jianlian.

I liked center Kendall Gray’s play in limited time, but he never developed and hasn’t had minutes recently.

If Treveon Graham is with Brooklyn, maybe Theo Pinson should play on Long Island tomorrow. The 15-6 Nets lead the East, and we want it to stay that way.

"He’s the next Yi Jianlian."

Wait, is that a good thing?

Sort of a joke.

Chinese basketball player Zhou Qi who used to play for NBA’s Houston Rockets clarified later on Thursday that he came back to China only to visit his friends and family and that he’s still waiting to hear from the U.S. side about his future.

"I want to say ‘thank you’ to the fans for their concerns. I have been training recently while my agent has been in touch with the U.S. side. I came back this time because the Chinese Spring Festival is coming so I want to take this opportunity to visit my friends and family, whom I have not seen in a long time," said Zhou in a phone interview according to Tencent Sports.

Zhou Qi also mentioned that he’s waiting for the outcome of the negotiations between his agent and the NBA teams that reached out to him.

Have you never

seen footage of Yi playing Chair?
