Led by Keon Johnson and Noah Clowney, Long Island Nets win, 108-104

No Jalen Wilson, Armoni Brooks or Dariq Whitehead but Keon Johnson led a big comeback and help get a win for Long Island.

With Jalen Wilson and Armoni Brooks in Phoenix and Dariq Whitehead resting, the Long Island Nets were short-handed Tuesday night at Nassau Coliseum, but two-way combo guard Keon Johnson and rookie Noah Clowney led a late charge vs. the Capital City Go-Go and came away winners, 108-104. Long Island is now 7-5.

Johnson, who at 21 is the third youngest player on the Nets expanded roster, finished with a season-high 26 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals in 36 minutes. He shot 8-of-18 from deep, including 2-of-4 from deep. Clowney. meanwhile, finished with his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Long Island guard Kyler Edwards posted 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two blocks and one steal in 36 minutes. Nets guard Terry Roberts recorded 14 points, two assists and two steals in 18 minutes off the bench.

Long Island had a slow start in the first quarter, while Capital City shot 52.2 percent from the field and 55.6% from behind the arc. The Go-Go closed the period ahead by 11, 34-23. Despite outscoring Capital City 22-19 in the second quarter, Long Island could not turn the tides. The Nets went into halftime down by eight, 53-45.

The Nets worked hard to close the gap in the third period, but Capital City kept its foot on the gas. The Go-Go closed the quarter ahead by 17, 82-65. Long Island’s offense turned up the heat in the fourth quarter, scoring 43 points on 57.1% shooting from the field and 55.6% from deep. The Nets’ defense also shined during the final quarter, forcing eight Go-Go turnovers. Long Island went on to defeat Capital City by four, 108-104.

Capital City forward Hamidou Diallo posted a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three assists and one steal in 35 minutes. Go-Go forward Jules Bernard added 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in 37 minutes.

Long Island will face Capital City again on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. ET at the Coliseum.

Johnson was signed November 1 to a non-guaranteed two-way after being waived by the Suns. He had played last season for the Blazers, then was included in the Deandre Ayton - Damian Lillard trade in late September. In 77 games over two years, KJ has averaged 5.9 points on 36/34/74 shooting splits. He has yet to play for Brooklyn.
