Nets ‘City Edition’ uniforms pay tribute to New Jersey roots

The leaks and rumors were true. The Nets City Edition uniforms are out and they are indeed a tribute to the team’s New Jersey roots. The uniforms will be worn a total of 23 times, starting Wednesday night vs. the Hawks. They go on sale November 15.

Here’s the team’s announcement, including a description of how the uniforms are based on a variety of those worn by the New Jersey Nets...

The new Brooklyn Nets City Edition uniform for the 2021-22 season blends elements from fan favorite styles covering different eras in the franchise’s history to create a memorably modern look. From the iconic stars & stripes of the Dr. J era to the 1990s wordmark revived with last season’s Classic jerseys and the argyle side panel of the NBA Finals teams, memories come alive on the court as this generation of Nets makes its mark. The full City Edition collection includes jerseys, tees, hoodies, and more.

Finally, there’s the accompanying City Edition court was revealed. It too will be revealed Wednesday...

It’s the second year in a row that the Nets will wear uniforms based on their 35 years in Teaneck, Piscataway, East Rutherford and Newark. It’s part of a concerted marketing campaign to bring New Jersey fans into the Brooklyn fold. Many fans were upset in 2012 when the Nets moved 13 miles to the east, feeling their team’s heritage was being shunted aside. Think of it as making amends ... and expanding the fanbase.

Just Sunday, the Nets Twitter account posted photos of David Duke Jr., one of the team’s two-ways, wearing New Jersey Nets gear...
