It’s finally official. After a record-setting 22 years in the NBA, Vince Carter is retiring.
“I’m officially done playing basketball professionally,” Carter said in a podcast hosted by the The Ringer and the Atlanta Hawks, the team he played for the past two years. “I’ll play at home.”
Carter, of course, played 374 games in five years with the Nets, only 29 fewer than he played north of the border. During those years, playing with and without Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson, VC averaged 23.6 points a game, a Nets record ... and 0.2 better than his Raptors average. He also averaged 5.8 boards and 4.2 assists during his tenure at the Meadowlands.
Now, the question is, will the Nets who seem ready to re-embrace their New Jersey roots, retire No. 15 (which a number of lesser players have worn since.)
Poll
Should the Nets retire No. 15 at Barclays Center?
We probably should have added another answer: What’s taken them so long!
