Justin Anderson, who has played very well for Long Island since his arrival in Uniondale via trade, has been selected to join Team USA for the upcoming FIBA AmeriCup Qualifying Games, which will be held in Washington, D.C.

The tournament will begin for Team USA on Sunday, February 23 when they play Puerto Rico at 3:00 p.m. Then, in November, they’ll return to action with games against the Bahamas on November 27, and Mexico three days later. Mike Fratello will coach Team USA during the tournament.

The games are part of FIBA’s qualification process for the World Cup in 2023, which will be played in Indonesia and the Philippines.

To replace Anderson, Long Island has acquired 6’8” forward Phil Cofer from the available player pool.

Cofer was waived by the College Park Skyhawks on Feb. 7, playing in a total of 23 games for the Hawks G League affiliate. In those 23 games, Cofer posted averages of 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.8 minutes per game. The new Net was initially selected by the Skyhawks via local player tryout.

Cofer is most known for his play at Florida State during his collegiate years. He spent five seasons as a Seminole and was named to the NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team following helping the team to the Elite Eight in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
