Live Game Thread: Brooklyn Nets vs. Atlanta Hawks, 6:00 PM EST

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Brooklyn Nets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

Talk about just any old, random Sunday game between the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks in January.

Sunday night’s game is likely to include the return of Kyrie Irving to the court for the Nets, after he’s missed nearly two months of action. Irving hasn’t played since November 14, 2019. His return is very much a welcome sight for sore eyes.

On the other side of the ball, this will likely be Vince Carter’s final visit to Brooklyn.

The Hawks are really bad, the Nets haven’t been very good over the last month - but here we are, excited for a Nets-Hawks game in early January.

WHO: Brooklyn Nets (17-20) vs. Atlanta Hawks (8-31)

WHEN: 6:00 PM EST

WHERE: YES Net work (tv), WCBS 880AM (radio), Barclays Center (live)

Game Preview

Yup, it’s a special night around these parts. This is the last time we’ll see Vince Carter play in the New York area and his impact on the Nets franchise was undeniable. He rejuvenated the Nets when he arrived from Toronto in late 2004 and helped lead them to the playoffs three times.

He was great for business as well as the Nets had increased popularity and attendance at games when he was here. He was excellent as a lead option when he came in and settled into the wise veteran role as the team went through its slump following the Jason Kidd trade. Carter always was fun to watch and now that his career is winding down, we can appreciate his great play and character even more. I look forward to seeing Vince come back to town whenever the Nets announce they’ll be retiring his jersey.
