NBA: Brooklyn Nets-Media Day Nicole Sweet-USA TODAY Sports

Preseason starts on Friday night. Nets vs. a Brazilian club, Basquete Franca, at Barclays Center. That’s enough excitement, but there’s also Practice in Park on Saturday and NBA China Games vs. the Lakers, which start a week from Wednesday in Shanghai!

Lots of deadlines throughout October as well, the big one October 21. That’s the last day for the Nets to extend Taurean Prince’s rookie contract. Rodions Kurucs is back in court as well.

One interesting date to consider when looking down the line: Wilson Chandler can return to active status on December 15. That’s also the first day he (and others signed in the summer) can be traded.

Here ya go...

October 4 - Nets host Basquete Franca of Brazil at Barclays Center in preseason opener.

October 5 - Nets Open Practice in the Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park. 10 am to 3 pm. Attendances a bit restricted this year. Nets expected to leave for China.

October 10-12 — Nets and Lakers travel to China for the NBA China Games where they’ll play two games vs. the Lakers in Shanghai at the Mercedes Benz Arena on October 10 and in Shenzhen at the Shenzhen Dayun Center two days later. Both will be televised ... and start at 7:30 a.m. ET.

October 18 — Last preseason game, Nets vs. Raptors at Barclays. It’s the smallest number of preseason games in memory. For the first time since 2015, the Nets and Knicks won’t meet up. Game had been scheduled for Nassau Coliseum, but Nets moved it to Brooklyn.

-- NBA Preseason ends around the league.

October 21 - Last day the Nets can sign Taurean Prince to a rookie contract extension beginning in 2020-21 of face the prospect of him becoming a restricted free agent and open to offer sheets from other teams come July 1, 2020. The Nets avoided this deadline with Caris LeVert by signing LeVert to a three-year, $52.5 million extension on August 25.

— Rosters set for NBA Opening Day (5 p.m. ET). Teams must cut down to 15 players. Exhibit 10 players cut on or before this date have their G League rights automatically transferred to Long Island Nets. In Nets case, that’s currently Deng Adel, C.J. Williams and John Egbunu.

-- Rodion Kurucs next hearing on domestic assault charges in Brooklyn.

— G League Draft. A conference call.

October 22 - NBA regular season opens.

October 23 - Nets open the 2019-20 season in Brooklyn vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves.

October 31 - Deadline for rookie contract team options on Jarrett Allen (fourth year) and Dzanan Musa (third year).

November 1 - Wilson Chandler’s 25-game suspension for PED use begins with the fifth game of the season. Brooklyn can add a 16th player for the next 20 games ending December 15 vs. Philadelphia. Presumably, that will be Lance Thomas who the Nets signed on Friday.

—First of 20 nationally televised games, Nets vs. Rockets, at Barclays Center.

November 9 - G League opens with Long Island Nets facing the Mad Ants in Fort Wayne. Two days later, it’s the College Park Skyhawks at Nassau Coliseum. Long Island is the Eastern Conference defending champions.

December 15 - Free agents signed in the summer —Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Garrett Temple, Wilson Chandler, Theo Pinson and David Nwaba— can be traded.

—Wilson Chandler’s suspension ends. At that point, the Nets will have to waive a player to get back to 15, either him or his replacement or another player. The Nets could also trade him.
