Team USA’s foray to the FIBA World Cup ended Saturday as the Americans beat Poland, 87-74, to finish seventh, a huge disappointment for USA Basketball who had hoped to top the tournament held across China. Team USA finished with a 6-2 record overall.

Joe Harris had his best game in World Cup play, scoring 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Harris averaged 8.0 points and 3.9 rebounds over the course of the eight games. He shot 50 .percent from deep and 51.1 overall.

“I’m going to look back on it and have unbelievable memories,” said Harris after the game, which was played in Shenzhen, China. “These are friendships that are very unique, where we’ve formed a special bond going through what we just did together. … Some of these guys who I might not have had a chance to know otherwise are now some of my closest friends. It’s unique in that way.”

The Americans put together a 10-0 run in the first quarter to take a 28-14 lead. Poland started 0-of-13 from 3-point range, not getting one from beyond the arc to fall until Michal Sokolowski connected with 1:28 left in the half — and by then, the U.S. lead was 18. Poland got as close as seven in the second half, but never mounted a serious threat.

Harris will now head back to Brooklyn after playing 12 games —including exhibition games— in six cities on three continents with Team USA ... and get ready to return to China in three weeks for the NBA China Games vs Lakers.

John Schuhmann of quoted Harris on how the World Cup experience proved a great preparation for the NBA season.

“Individually, across the board, everybody gets a lot better by playing and going through this entire process,” Harris said this week. “You spent 39-plus days with one of the best coaches in the world, one of the best coaches in the game in Pop.

”Just being around them, learning their approach to the game, being around all these great players, competing with them night in and night out, whether it’s practices or games, and competing at a high level every night against some of the best players in the world, this is the best off=season preparation you can have going into the season.”

Spain will play Argentina in the World Cup final Sunday in Beijing.
