TMZ Sports spoke with Carmelo Anthony in Manhattan Saturday night about the Nets and reportedly being recruited by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving ... and although he was all smiles, he didn’t commit to joining them on the Nets.
But he did say he appreciated his former Olympic teammates. Melo, KD, Kyrie and DeAndre Jordan all played on the 2016 gold medal-winning team in Rio de Janeiro.
”That’s family,” Melo said, while signing autographs. “So, that’s bigger than basketball. If something happens, something’s gonna happen.”
Anthony also had a message for those who’ve been campaigning to get him back in the NBA ... and said he’s ready to return to the league.
”I appreciate all my fans. Everybody, it’s nothing but love. I’m good. Me and my family good. That’s all that matters. I’m 10 toes down. I feel better than I’ve ever felt.”
Frank Isola of The Athletic wrote Thursday that the Nets superstars were lobbying for the Nets to sign the 35-year-old 10-time All-Star who last played for Houston in November. Isola also reported Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson had both watched him play in informal workouts.
Although the Nets have 15 players under contract, Wilson Chandler has been suspended for 25 games for using a performance-enhancing drug.
With Durant out for an undetermined amount of time and Chandler out a third of the season, the Nets depth at the 4 will be stretched.
