Dog days of summer have arrived. The FIBA World Cup is the marquee event going forward, with one player and one stash possibly participating. There will be other “moments” like G League open tryouts and some WNBA dates, but the big number is 46: days left till training camp begins.

August 31-September 15 - FIBA World Cup, China. Joe Harris looks like he has a good shot at making Team USA. Nemanja Dangubic of Serbia, a stash acquired in the DeMarre Carroll S&T, may also make his country’s final roster. Latvia (Rodions Kurucs) and Bosnia (Dzanan Musa) didn’t qualify so they won’t be participating. Team USA will play an exhibition game vs. Spain in Anaheim on August 16, then two others at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia on August 22 and 24.

September 7 - First of two Long Island Nets sponsored open tryouts. The tryout will be held at Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn. Details here.

September 8 - Last day of WNBA regular season.

September 10 - Teams must renew their rights to stashed players. A formality.

September 11 - WNBA playoffs begin.

September 21 - Second of two Long Island Nets sponsored open tryouts. This tryout will be held at LIU’s Pratt Center in Brookville. Both workouts are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

September 23 - 10th anniversary of Mikhail Prokhorov’s agreement to purchase 80 percent of the Nets and 45 percent of the then unbuilt Barclays Center

September 27 — Training camp opens. Off-Season ends, Pre-Season begins. Teams (like the Nets) who play preseason games overseas get a head start over the other clubs who open their camps three days later.

October 4 - Nets host Basquete Franca of Brazil at Barclays Center in preseason opener.

October 10-12 — Nets and Lakers travel to China for the NBA China Games where they’ll play two games vs. the Lakers in Shanghai at the Mercedes Benz Arena on October 10 and in Shenzhen at the Shenzhen Dayun Center two days later. Both will be televised ... and start at 7:30 a.m.

October 18 — Last preseason game, Nets vs. Raptors at Nassau Coliseum.

October 21 - Last day the Nets can sign Caris LeVert or Taurean Prince to a rookie contract extension beginning in 2020-21 of face the prospect of them being restricted free agents and open to offer sheets from other teams come July 1.

December 15 - Free agents signed in the summer —Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Jordan, Garrett Temple, David Nwaba— can be traded.
