Coach Nick (Hauselman) of BBall Breakdown takes an in-depth look at how the Nets can use Kyrie Irving this coming season, pointing to plays that Brad Stevens ran for him in Boston as well as a plays that Kenny Atkinson ran for D’Angelo Russell in Brooklyn.
Bottom line for Coach Nick:
“I am excited for the Nets with Kyrie at the helm. While Russell is still so young and developing, Brooklyn has replaced him with an NBA champion, a grizzled veteran who’s polished and knows how to win at the highest levels.
“There’s no question this will work well on the court during the regular season but it doesn’t address whether Kyrie can become a better teammate in the locker room, a cloud that has hung over his head in both Cleveland and Boston. It doesn’t seem possible he wouldn’t have grown and learned from those experiences. So I’m willing to bet that the Nets will get the best version of him and that means they’ll be competing for that third spot in the East and the team no one will want to match up with in the playoffs.”
