Not there. The New York came home to face the Chicago Sky after a brief two game west coast swing. Although they gave Chicago a good fight, they weren't able to pull it out the end and lost by eight on Wednesday. After this game, the Liberty have a week off before coming home to face the Dallas Wings on Friday night.
The opponent this evening will be the Minnesota Lynx. The Lynx are hoping to continue their recent run of excellence, but the road will be a lot tougher this time around. They lost to the Las Vegas Aces at home on Sunday, which pushed their current losing streak to four games.
Where to follow the game
NBATV has us covered for this one. Tip off after 8 PM.
Injuries
Amanda Zhaui B is away from the team as she's competing in Eurobasket. Rebecca Allen is out with a hand injury. Kia Nurse appeared to injure her ankle on Wednesday, but she says she's fine and will likely be playing tonight.
Seimone Augustus has yet to make her season debut and will be out three to four more weeks.
The game
NY won the first meeting last week.
If there's any solace the Lynx can take in regards to their current losing streak, it's that the games have been fairly close. After the latest loss, Danielle Robinson said:
“The way that we played tonight, we’re proud of. We just need to finish out games now. We are always going to play hard. … That’s something that we did better of and we’ve hung our hat on these first games of the season.”
A few breaks here and there and Minnesota will be back on the winning side of things.
With Zahui B is gone, New York will be losing one of the best shot blockers in the league. Zahui B was second in blocks, averaging a little over two a game in her 27 minutes a night. Without her for the time beingn, NY will struggle some defending the interior.
Player to watch: Napheesa Collier
Collier's been having a good season, but there is something she needs to clean up. Over at High Post Hoops, Jared Hines wrote:
Collier’s one flaw right now is her ability to get into foul trouble for Minnesota, forcing Reeve to sit her during crucial stretches of the game. Collier is averaging over three personal fouls a game, including five in the 80-75 home loss to the Aces on June 16. As she becomes more confident in her game at the professional level, Collier is a force to be reckoned with and will be for years to come.
Collier's only a rookie so as she gets more seasoning, she'll cut down on the fouls.
For NY's sake, they're hoping Kia Nurse will be 100 percent for this one. She was the driving force in their win over Minnesota last time and with the Liberty on the road tonight, will need to carry the team late again.
Jam session
Can never go wrong with some Sade.
