In Vegas rematch, Aces crush Liberty with LeBron in attendance

The Liberty’s Twitter feed said it best...

After ending their 17-game losing streak with a win over the Aces in Westchester last weekend, the Liberty flew to Las Vegas where they were crushed at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Kia Nurse was the only member of the Liberty to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Kelsey Plum, who’s reportedly been dating D’Angelo Russell, led Las Vegas with 19.

The game wasn’t a total loss. Among the 4,110 in attendance were LeBron James, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul. Two-thirds of a banana boat.

The game was never in doubt for the Aces. Kayla McBride’s three-pointer a little more than two minutes into the game gave the Aces a double-digit lead and Dearica Hamby’s free throw with 2:04 left in the first quarter made it 32-12.

Las Vegas made 11 of its first 13 shots and set a season high for points in a quarter with 35 in the first. By halftime, Vegas was up, 66-31, a margin they maintained in the second half. The Aces finished the first half shooting 67.6%, while the Liberty shot just 9 of 34 (26.5%), and missed all 11 of their three-point attempts before halftime.

Kayla McBride had 18 points, Liz Cambage scored 17 and A’ja Wilson 14 for the Aces. All 10 players who saw action for Las Vegas (3-3).

The Liberty play again on Saturday night in L.A. vs. the Sparks. Game time is 10 p.m.
