New York Liberty finished preseason with a 1-3 record Sunday afternoon, losing 98-79 to the Connecticut Sun at the Times Union Center in Albany. The Liberty has lost three straight to WNBA teams after beating the Chinese Women’s National Team on May 9 at Barclays Center.
Liberty Guard Kia Nurse, a member of the Canadian national team, led all scoring with 25 points. Nurse ends this preseason second in overall scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. First round draft pick Asia Durr added 16 points off the bench. All-Star Tina Charles added nine points for the Liberty. Han Xu, the other Liberty rookie, came off the bench but failed to score, going 0-of-3.
Jonquel Jones, the Sun center, scored 21.
The Liberty, who are in their own rebuild after a 7-27 season in 2018, shot well from deep, hitting 9-of-17, but the Sun dominated in the paint. hitting 54.4 percent overall, compared to the Liberty’s 42.6.
New York will open the regular season this Friday, May 24 when the team hosts the Indiana Fever at the Westchester County Center.
