Amanda Zahui B scored the first basket and went on to lead all scorers with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the Liberty’s loss Tuesday to the Atlanta Dream in a preseason contest hosted by the Connecticut Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
Zahui B, the Liberty’s 6’5”, 250 pound power forward, was one of three New York players in double figures. Kia Nurse, the team’s small forward, was second had 15 points and four assists. Avery Warley-Talbert and Tiffany Bias scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Han Xu coming off the bench had four points and one rebound in 11 minutes. Tina Charles played only six minutes and scored three points.
The Tuesday night matchup featured nine lead changes and eight ties, with the Liberty up 15 at one point. The effort was an improvement over the first game in the two-game preseason tournament. For example, the Liberty shot 44.6 percent overall, compared to Monday’s 36.8 percent against the Sun.
New York will finish out the preseason on Sunday, May 19, against the Connecticut Sun at the Times Union Center in Albany, NY. The game will tip off at 2:30 p.m. ET.
