No surprise. The Nets on Friday night requested waivers on guards Devin Cannady, CJ Massinburg and C.J. Williams and forward Lance Thomas. None of the four played vs. the Raptors.
Brooklyn’s roster now stands at 16 players including two-way player Henry Ellenson, the 6’11” former Knick who played seven minutes Friday.
Of the four, Cannady and Massinburg are automatically eligible to move to the Long Island Nets. The Nets will have to acquire Williams G League rights are held by the Iowa Wolves if they want him to join the Nets affiliate. If, on the other hand, Brooklyn wants to give the 29-year-old a two-way deal, they wouldn’t need to acquire his rights. The Nets have another two-way available.
When the Nets signed Thomas, the former Knicks captain, on September 27, the belief was that he will take Wilson Chandler’s place when Chandler’s suspension for PED goes into effect on November 1. Thomas will have to clear waivers then be re-signed as a vets minimum player.
Of course, the Nets front office could go in another direction on the second two-way or the Chandler replacement.
