Howard Beck on Ain’t Hard To Tell Podcast: ‘Jimmy Butler to Nets makes no sense’

The Jimmy Butler saga is not over yet, so we’re still going to talk about it. And it’s not just Woj or Bobby Marks who thinks it’s not a great idea.

Howard Beck returned to join Dexter Henry and I on the Ain’t Hard To Tell Podcast, where among many NBA topics, we briefly discussed the Brooklyn Nets on two fronts: Whether or not Jimmy Butler makes any sense for the team, and whether or not playoffs are realistic for this team.

The at length Jimmy Butler discussion begins at 12:34, with Beck saying the following at the 20:54 mark – after we had mentioned Caris LeVert’s involvement in these rumors.

“For the Nets, it doesn’t make any sense to me, they’re starting at ground zero. They’ve got, you know, $70 whatever million in cap space next summer. They’ve got a different plan – it’s nice to have the one star in hand to attract the others, but it’s better if that guy is 26 instead of 30. There are a lot of teams like that in the NBA where it’s just not the right time.”

Later on, we discussed the team’s playoff chances (and why) at the 57:18 mark, after establishing the Eastern Conference has six given teams. (The Raptors, Celtics, 76ers, Bucks, Pacers and Wizards).

Our responses could surprise you.
