Long Island Nets win at G League Showcase behind Jordan McLaughlin

The Long Island Nets were without Dzanan Musa, their leading scorer, and Theo Pinson Thursday, when they made their debut in the G League Showcase in Las Vegas, but Jordan McLaughlin, their 6’1” point guard, filled in more than adequately.

McLaughlin led Long Island to a 110-100 win over the Rio Grande Vipers. The 22-year-old USC product finished with 32 points, eight assists and six steals. The Showcase brings together all 27 G League teams for four days of games.

Here’s McLaughlin’s highlights...

McLaughlin’s performance marked a new season-high in scoring for a Nets player. The guard was 11-of-20 from the field in the match-up. Two-way player Alan Williams added 24 points and 14 rebounds (seven offensive) for Long Island.

Two other veteran Long Islanders, Tahjere McCall and Kamari Murphy, were also in double figures. McCall finished with 12 points and Murphy with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Vipers’ Brandon Sampson provided highlights for Rio Grande Valley in the loss. The guard recorded 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, all team-highs. The Vipers fall to 9-9 with the loss.

The Nets complete their Showcase trip on Saturday when they take on the Oklahoma City Blue at 5:00 p.m. PT on ESPN Plus. The Vipers wrap up their week on Saturday as well, facing the Greensboro Swarm at 3:30 p.m. PT on Facebook Live.
