Jeremy Senglin sets Long Island record with 40 points in win

Jeremy Senglin set a franchise-record 40 points in Long Island’s 120-111 win over the Maine Red Claws Tuesday, but wasn’t the game’s high scorer. Maine’s Kadeem Allen tallied 44 in the contest, played at Nassau Coliseum.

Senglin, who comes off the bench for the young Nets, shot 66.7 percent (14-of-21) overall, 60 percent (6-of-10) from 3-point range and hit all six of his free throws in his 32 minutes on the court. Here’s the highlights...

It was Long Island’s third straight win after six consecutive losses. They’re now 17-13.

The 6’2” Weber State product, who was on the Nets summer league team and in training camp for Brooklyn, was part of a dominant backcourt for Long Island. Nets two-way contract Milton Doyle contributed 28 points, six rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes, shooting 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from the field and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from long range. In his 16th game on assignment with Long Island, Brooklyn Nets guard Isaiah Whitehead notched 18 points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 28 minutes.

They were the only three Nets in double figures. James Webb III, the Nets most recent two-way signing, finished with nine points and six rebounds, shooting 50 percent from three (3-of-6).

For the season, Senglin is now averaging 14 points a game and shooting 36.1 percent from deep. He’s played has played in 29 games, all but six coming off the bench. He was the NCAA’s leading 3-point shooter last season, hitting 132 of them.

The home team broke out early in the first with 15 of their first 33 points coming from Doyle. Long Island led by as many as 18 points in the first quarter alone before leading by 26 points in the second half. Senglin notched 16 points in the first half and 24 points in the second. It was the team’s second straight game without trailing and Long Island’s third straight victory.

Maine guard Kadeem Allen countered with a game-high 44 points (15-of-28 FG, 5-of-9 3FG, 9-of-12 FT), five rebounds, five assists and four steals in 42 minutes. Forward Devin Williams registered a double-double for the visitors with 16 points and 22 rebounds in 30 minutes off the bench. Ex-Net Anthony Bennett tallied 10 points and six rebounds in 19 minutes.
