The Long Island Nets hit 21 three pointers Friday night at the G-League Showcase, but it wasn’t enough as the Oklahoma City Blue beat them, 121-110. With Milton Doyle in Brooklyn, the young Nets have lost five straight including both games at the Showcase in suburban Toronto.
Jeremy Senglin had a game and pro career high 29 points and seven 3-pointers while Isaiah Whitehead finished with 22 points and six 3-pointers. The Nets shot 39 percent from deep, going 21-of-54. For OKC, Brooklyn native Dakari Johnson, on assignment from the Thunder, had 21 and former Net Markel Brown, who played last year in Moscow, had 14.
After a close first quarter, the Blue shot 59.3% from the field in the second period to score 42 points and enter halftime with a 65-49 advantage over the Nets. Long Island responded in the third and went 7-of-14 from beyond the arc to enter the final period down by just six. Oklahoma City however made 21-of-25 free throws in the fourth to secure the victory. Long Island took only 15 free throws the entire game.
“They played really well and they kept coming but I thought our guys showed great resiliency,” said OKC Coach Mark Daigneault. “I was happy with how we performed.”
Two-way player Daniel Hamilton led the Blue in scoring with 22 points and added 11 assists and seven rebounds. On assignment from the Thunder, center Dakari Johnson notched 21 points and 11 rebounds to also log a double-double while Bryce Alford came off the bench for 18 points and went 5-of-7 from three-point range.
Long Island plays again next Wednesday against the Westchester Knicks in Westchester.
