The Nets have announced that their first round draft pick, 6’11” Jarrett Allen, will not participate in the Las Vegas summer league due to a hip injury.
Brian Lewis reports that Allen, taken at No. 22 in the draft, has a strained right hip flexor that he sustained two weeks ago during draft workouts.
It will be the second straight year that the Nets first rounder will not play in the summer league. Last year, Caris LeVert missed out because he was recovering from foot surgery.
Allen, at 19, hasn’t suffered any major injuries unlike a number of bigs taken both ahead and behind him in the June 22 Draft.
The injury should open up more minutes for Prince Ibeh who like Allen is an athletic, 6’11” Texas product with a 7’5 1/2” wing span.
