The votes are in and while Caris LeVert and Isaiah Whitehead both got votes, neither made either the first or second team all-Rookie teams.
LeVert, the 20th pick in the 2016 draft, was the closer of the two, with 36 votes, including two for first team. He finished 12th in the balloting but since there are only two teams, he didn’t get All-Rookie recognition. Whitehead, taken at No. 42, garnered five.
The lowest vote-getter on the second team was Yogi Ferrell, the former Net, who received 63. Ferrell went undrafted, then signed with the Nets who ultimately released him. The Mavericks called him up from Long Island when they were short of point guards and he thrived in the Dallas system.
LeVert, of course, didn’t start playing until December. He had underwent foot reconstruction surgery the previous March and was on minutes restrictions for a number of weeks after that. Whitehead, a second rounder out of Seton Hall, was thrown into the starting lineup after Jeremy Lin and Greivis Vasquez both went down.
The top vote-getters were Bucks point guard Malcolm Brogdon and 76ers swingman Dario Saric who were both unanimous selections.
Also on the first team were Joel Embiid of Philadelphia; Buddy Hield of Sacramento and Willy Hernangomez of the Knicks. Only one of the five —Hield— was taken in the first round of the 2016 Draft. Brodgon went in the second round at No. 36. Saric and Embiid were taken high in the first round of the 2014 draft while Hernangomez went in the second round in 2015.
