Woj: Pelicans interested in Lopez ... Okafor too

It’s sort of a Woj Bomb. But its’ not definitive. Not imminent.

In a later story, Marc Stein confirmed the Pelicans interest in Lopez, but in the past tense.

The Pelicans have previously pursued centers such as Milwaukee's Greg Monroe and Brooklyn's Brook Lopez in search of an offensive-minded frontcourt sidekick to star big man Anthony Davis.

What’s it all mean? Hard to tell, but it appears New Orleans is very interested in putting a big man with offensive skills next to Anthony Davis in hopes of making a playoff run this season.

It also seems the Pelicans have approached a number of teams, including but probably not limited to the Nets, 76ers and Bucks, as the trade deadline approaches.

As numerous reporters — Wojnarowski himself, Marc Stein and last week Ian Eagle— have noted in the last month or so, Sean Marks is prepared to exact a high price for Lopez, who’s averaging 21 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 34.3 percent from the arc.

Eagle, interviewed by the Glue Guys last week, suggested Marks is unlikely to dump Lopez without a package that begins with a lottery pick this season and a future first rounder. Stein’s take was similar: the Nets want two first rounders ... and Woj said the Nets will not give Lopez away.

it would also appear the Nets are listening to offers, but there’s no indication yet that they’re offering him.

The trade deadline is 3 p.m. on February 23. Stand by.
