The Long Island Nets have signed guard Charlie Marquardt from the available player pool. Long Island had a roster opening after waiving Yakuba Ouattara, a two-way player.
Marquardt, a 6’3” shooting guard, participated in Long Island’s local player tryout on September 30 and joined the team for training camp before being waived on October 27. He had returned to the U.S. after signing with, then leaving BSG Grevenbroich in Germany.
Marquardt, 22, played four seasons at Molloy College on Long Island. In 28 games (all starts) as a senior, he recorded averages of 21.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.2 steals in 35.9 minutes per game.
The Rockaway Beach, N.Y., native led the East Coast Conference in scoring last season en route to All-Conference First Team honors and set a single-game record in the ECC Finals when he scored 51 of Molloy’s 86 points on March 5 against Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
He also led Molloy in scoring, 3-point field goal percentage (.411) and free throw percentage (.912) as a senior.
