Nets and Knicks in rare Sunday night game at Barclays

NBA: Preseason-Brooklyn Nets at New York Knicks Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

Go go go. We are halfway through the preseason, and the Brooklyn Nets are looking good. They won their second game of this brief campaign on Thursday against the Miami Heat by a comfortable 19 points. They wrap things up on Wednesday against the Sixers at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island.

The opponent tonight will be the New York Knicks. They lost 104-100 to the Washington Wizards on Friday night, but there were some good signs for Jeff Hornacek’s crew.

Where to follow the game

YES Network has what you need. Tip-off after 7:30. It’s the first YES broadcast of the 2017-18 season and a rare Sunday night game.

Injuries

Allen Crabbe and Caris Levert have yet to suit up this preseason due to ankle injuries, but they are listed as probable for this game. Decision should come Sunday morning.

Frank Nilikina has been dealing with a knee injury and it’s unlikely he suits up tonight.

The game

Brooklyn won the preseason opener on Tuesday.

The good thing about having two quality point guards on the roster is your offense will be in safe hands. One of either D’Angelo Russell or Jeremy Lin will be on the court at all times and that will make life easy for their teammates. Both guards can break defenses and get shots at the rim, and with defenses keying on them, that will open things up for their teammates. The Nets were second in wide open three-point attempts last season, but were 25th in field goal percentage. That should change in a dramatic way this season.

Assuming Crabbe and Levert make their debuts tonight, it’ll present an interesting dilemma for Kenny Atkinson. He’s looking to go with an 11-man rotation, so these final two games will give him a chance to figure who’s starting, how long he’ll run with certain lineups, etc. With preseason being shorter this year, Crabbe and Levert don’t have much time to get in the swing of things.
