He was signed by the Nets signed in the off-season, played in the summer league, waived, then called up and waived again before settling in with the Long Island Nets. Now Yogi Ferrell is headed to Dallas on a 10-day contract.
Shams Charania of The Vertical broke the story...
The Mavericks are planning to sign guard Yogi Ferrell of D-League's Long Island on a 10-day contract, league sources tell The Vertical.— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) January 27, 2017
Ferrell played in a total of 10 games with Brooklyn, averaging 5.4 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 rebounds in 15.1 minutes before being waived in favor of Spencer Dinwiddie in December.
Since then, Ferrell has been playing with Long Island. In 23 games, 18 starts, Ferrell averaged 18.7 points and 2.9 assists, shooting 42.2 percent overall and 38.2 overall. During much of his time with Long Island, Ferrell played the off-guard next to Donnie McGrath. McGrath left Long Island for Europe a few weeks ago.
If the Dallas deal doesn’t result in a guaranteed deal and he wants to return to the D-League, Long Island would hold his rights.
With three of Dallas' point guards --including ex-Nets Deron Williams and Devin Harris— suffering from injuries, Ferrell will provide some needed backup.
