Nets New Yorkers set school back-pack day

New, comment
Whitehead and McCullough Doug Bearak

Last year, Chris McCullough became the first native New Yorker to join the Brooklyn Nets. This year, Isaiah White becomes the first Brooklynite to play for the home team.

The two 21-year-olds played against each others as kids in high school and AAU and now teamed up in Brooklyn, they’re working together on a big school supply giveaway Wednesday in Coney Island at MCU Park, 1904 Surf Ave. The program lasts from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

It’s the second time in two weeks that a Nets player arranged for free school supplies. Two weekends ago, in College Park, MD, Greivis Vasquez did the same thing. Vasquez is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
