Brooklyn Nets seeking Mandarin-speaking digital producer

Brooklyn Nets

If you had any doubt that the Nets will be taking full advantage of Jeremy Lin's arrival, not to worry.

In yet another example of how they're going to be aggressive in pursuing the Chinese and Chinese American market, the Nets have quietly listed a job opening for a "digital content producer" to handle the "Nets’ Mandarin platforms." That means their Chinese language websites and social media. The job is new and full-time.

The Nets, like every NBA team has its own Chinese language site and its own presence on Weibo, the giant social media operation that's been called a cross between Facebook and Twitter. The Nets job site lists the job's responsibilities...

  • Oversee Brooklyn Nets Mandarin digital presence: website and Weibo account with the goal of spreading awareness about the Brooklyn Nets brand to the Chinese market and building engagement around it
  • Produce compelling digital and social content with an international target audience

  • Manage Brooklyn Nets’ Weibo presence: devise editorial strategy, content production and execution

  • Create editorial calendars for Brooklyn Nets’ Mandarin website and Weibo account

  • Translate content from English into Mandarin

  • Monitor Web and Weibo analytics; create regular reports to share internally

  • Collaborate internally with Web, Social, Video, Marketing Partnerships, Merchandise and other departments to align messaging and brand voice

  • Create digital campaigns to help market Nets’ merchandise internationally

  • Liaise with NBA International team to stay abreast of League initiatives, Weibo updates and international content opportunities

  • All other duties as assigned.

  • The Nets had a big Chinese presence during Yi Jianlian's years in New Jersey, setting up their own Chinese language site.  A Nets official tells NetsDaily that the Weibo site currently has 1.3 million followers.

The producer, according to the posting, must be fluent in both English and Mandarin (written and spoken) and be able to translate written content from English to Mandarin and vice versa.
