Faced with a lack of interest from NBA teams, Shane Larkin has signed with Spanish and Euroleague powerhouse Baskonia, joining Andrea Bargnani. It's the third straight year and three straight teams for the duo. They played with the 17-win Knicks in 2014-15 and the 21-win Nets last season. Former Net Toko Shengelia also plays for Baskonia.
David Pick broke the news and added details later Wednesday...
Shane Larkin signed with Baskonia for $900 thousand net. That exceeds his $1.5 million gross contract with Brooklyn.— David Pick (@IAmDPick) August 10, 2016
The signing continues the exodus of last year's roster overseas.
2015-16 #Nets Karasev, Bargnani, Larkin and Sloan are out of the NBA. Robinson and Brown's futures still TBD.— Mike Mazzeo (@MazzESPN) August 10, 2016
Of the group, it appears that Donald Sloan, who joined the Guangdong Southern Tigers, is the big winner so far. He signed for $2.7 million. Sergey Karasev has signed with Zenit St.Petersburg, where his father is coach.
Larkin played 73 games, started 17, averaged 7.3 points and 4.4 assists. He and Thomas Robinson were the first free agents Billy King called at midnight last July 1. Baskonia plays in the Basque city of Vitoria and is also known as Laboral.
