Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Bret Brielmaier, an assistant coach on the NBA champion Cavs and before that the Spurs has been named an assistant under Kenny Atkinson.
Brelmaier brings to at least six the number of assistants on the staff. In addition to Brelmaier, the Nets have hired
--Jacque Vaughn, former Magic head coach, as lead assistant;
--Chris Fleming, who handled offensive duties with the Nuggets, as second assistant;
--Adam Harrington, from the Thunder player development staff, as director of player development;
--Jordan Ott who came from Atlanta with Atkinson, will handle video;
--Mike Batiste, who was lead assistant for the Canton Charge, as big man coach.
In addition, Will Weaver will serve as an assistant to Atkinson as he did with Brett Brown in Philly, interfacing with other elements of the front office, and Dan Meehan, who comes from the North Melbourne Football Club, will be strength and conditioning coach. All are new hires. An announcement on the staff, most of whom have been officially named, is expected this week.
Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports on Brelmaier's move...
Brielmaier, 28, will receive a promotion by being elevated to the front of the bench. Nets general manager Sean Marks and assistant general manager Trajan Langdon have a close relationship with Brielmaier, who they've worked with in San Antonio.
Brelmaier spent three years in San Antonio before joining the Cavaliers in 2013. He was head coach for the Cavaliers Summer League entry in Las Vegas last year.
