Ex-Nets forward Sergey Karasev signed in Russia to play for his dad, Vasily Karasev.— David Pick (@IAmDPick) July 1, 2016
As reported by the Russia media at the end of May, Vasily Karasev said that his son would no longer play for the Nets but was open to offers from both NBA and European clubs. After the season, he flew to Miami where he trained alone. In Instagram images, he was seen wearing NBA workout gear rather than Nets.
The Nets ownership had hoped they could develop him following the 2014 trade that brought him to Brooklyn along with Jarrett Jack. However, Karasev suffered a devastating knee injury that year and then on return couldn't get floor time under either Lionel Hollins and Tony Brown. Many inside the organization questioned his work ethic.
With his signing, Karasev's caphold will be removed from the Nets cap.
