This is a story about what probably isn't happening for the Nets.
Adrian Wojnarowski reports Saturday morning on the list of teams who are either will meet with Kevin Durant or who might get an audience with the league's top free agent. The Nets, despite their many business and personal relationships with Durant, do not appear on either list.
Durant’s representatives at Roc Nation are working to solidify invitations with the Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Thunder, league sources said.
The meetings are expected to take place in New York, but teams are still awaiting word on a location...
Several teams that have interest in Durant – the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Washington Wizards – could still find audiences with him, but appear to be outsiders in the process now.
Woj reports there is one overriding criteria... "the chance to win titles immediately." That is not the Nets. Woj also notes that the Thunder remain the heavy favorite to re-sign Durant. They can offer him more money, more years and a team that got to the NBA's Final Four, losing to the Warriors in a close series.
The Nets of course haven't promised they'd get a meeting with KD. We don't even know if they've asked. All Sean Marks has said publicly about free agency is, "We know who we're targeting out there and we'll see where it goes."
It's apparently not going to meet KD.
