And now for a dose of reality, a bitter pill.
After the Cavaliers defeated the Warriors Sunday night, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, posted its championship odds for 2016-17, making the two teams that played for the title the favorites for a return to the podium a year from now.
The Warriors are 3-2, the Cavaliers 5-2 to win it all. The Spurs (6-1), the Thunder (8-1) and the Clippers (16-1) round out the top five. And way, way, way down at the bottom were your Brooklyn Nets with a 500-1 chance of getting rings next June. The only team close to them: the 300-1 Phoenix Suns. Of course, the rosters haven't even been filled yet.
Well, you say, Leicester City was a 5,000-1 to win the English Premier League this season and won it all. In other words, they were 10 times less likely to win a championship than the Nets will be. And those watching Richard Jefferson win it all Sunday might recall that Jason Kidd's 2001-02 Nets were given no chance to even make the playoffs ... and got to the Finals.
So, gentlemen and ladies, place your bets and hope for the best ... against all odds.
