Are Spurs interested in Thomas Robinson?

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Speculation or inside information?  Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News reports Tuesday that the Spurs may be interested in Thomas Robinson if, as expected, he opts out of his Nets contract in June.

Question becomes: If Robinson does opt out, where could the former first round pick (fifth overall in the 2012 draft) end up?

The Spurs could be one option.

Young doesn't quote any Spurs officials or TRob's circle, but notes that there are connections that could draw team and player together. Not to mention Gregg Popovich's comments that the Spurs need to get younger.. Robinson just turned 25.

The connection to Robinson: Spurs GM R.C. Buford has been a fan of the former University of Kansas standout for quite sometime. Buford has ties to the school from his days as an assistant coach under Larry Brown.

Robinson also played with LaMarcus Aldridge for two seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he averaged 4.5 points and 4.3 rebounds.

If Robinson does hit the market this offseason, don’t be surprised if the Spurs are among his pursuers.

Are the Nets, whose GM just left the Spurs, interested in keeping him? No one has mentioned him in discussions of the team's future, but things are just getting started.
