Chris Dempsey, the respected Denver Post writer, reports that there is "pretty good chance" the Nets will offer Nuggets assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas the Brooklyn GM job. In fact, Dempsey notes that Chauncey Billups is already lobbying for Karnisovas' job.
Dempsey reports, "Karnisovas spoke with the Nets earlier this week while the Nuggets were in New York for three days to face the Knicks and then the Nets. He is as hot a candidate as there is, and there a pretty good chance the Nets offer him the job." Dempsey did not offer any other details. Nor did he discuss why he thinks Karnisovas' prospects are so good.
Of course, one question is what job? Karnisovas was interviewed for Billy King's job but both Howard Beck and Marc Stein have reported this weekend that the Nets may want to hire both Bryan Colangelo and Karnisovas, presumably as president of basketball operations and general manager. When that construct would be attractive to either is uncertain, as is ownership's true desires.
In any event, Denver native Billups has let it be known that he's like Karnisovas job if he leaves, telling Dempsey, ""I still do have those aspirations."
