Oh Wow, another Brook Lopez trade rumor

It’s that time of year. Well, anytime is a time of the year for a Brook Lopez trade rumor.

Marc Stein in a note on the status of Lopez and another seven-footer, Donatas Motiejunas, reports that word around the league is that Lopez could be traded. Stein notes Lopez’s 34-point effort Wednesday, and adds...

What's happening behind the scenes is newsy, too. Some rival executives are increasingly convinced that the Nets are open to moving Lopez between now and the February deadline in the proverbial right deal.

Sources stressed to ESPN.com in recent days that they believe as it stands, the Nets are merely fielding calls and doing their due diligence. Listening to other teams, in other words, as opposed to shopping the former All-Star center.

He notes as well that “rumblings” about Boston wanting Lopez “have been forcefully shot down” by Celtic sources and offers no specifics on who might want the 28-year-old.

The reality, though, is that Lopez, at 28, is the Nets' most tradeable asset, thanks in part to the fact he has another full season (at $22.6 million) left on his contract after this one.

Bottom line: the Nets are listening rather than making calls. And of course, it would be rare for a big name like to Lopez to be traded before December 15, the first date that free agents can be dealt. That adds more than 100 names to the pool available.
