The Nets have waived Yogi Ferrell, the 6-foot point guard who played sparingly in preseason. He now appears headed to the Long Island Nets.
The move brings the Nets roster to 15, the maximum. The Nets had until Monday to make the final cut.
The move comes three days after they Nets waived Egidijus Mockevicius, Beau Beech, Jorge Gutierrez and Chase Budinger.
Ferrell, who originally signed with Brooklyn on August 5, appeared in three preseason games with the Nets, recording averages of 4.3 points and 1.7 assists in 9.6 minutes per game.
Under league rules, the last four players cut by an NBA team have their D-League rights assigned to the NBA club’s affiliate, in this case, the Long Island Nets. Ferrell, Mockevicius and Beech all received partial guarantees, one way of providing potential D-Leaguers with a financial cushion. Ferrell and Mockevicius received $100,000 each, while Beech received $45,000.
