Chris Copeland, wife stabbed and two Atlanta Hawks arrested in New York City

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

An insane story out of New York this morning, as Indiana Pacers big man Chris Copeland and his wife were stabbed at a Manhattan night club, 1 OAK, while two Atlanta Hawks players, Thabo Sefolosha and Pero Antic, were arrested in this incident for reportedly "trying to prevent the police from setting up a crime scene."

The New York Daily News has the details:

Chris Copeland, a former member of the New York Knicks now playing for the Indiana Pacers, was stabbed in the abdomen during an argument at 1 OAK club in Chelsea early Wednesday, cop sources said.

Copeland’s attacker was arrested, and two members of the Atlanta Hawks, Pero Antić and Thabo Sefolosha, were also booked, for trying to prevent police from setting up a crime scene, the sources said.

A woman who was with Copeland and later described by police sources as his wife, Katrine Saltara, was slashed amid the fracas, which happened shortly before 4 a.m., as the popular club on West 17th St. was preparing to close. An argument erupted as Copeland and the suspect were leaving, the sources said.

Peachtree Hoops, via the New York Times, has additional details saying that Sefolosha "charged an officer" and Antic "physically grabbed another officer" during the incident.

WSB Atlanta posted this tweet of Antic and Sefolosha being put into a police car ... with Sefolosha walking with a severe limp.

According to the police report on the incident, "It took four officers to place the defendant Sefolosha in handcuffs."  Following an arraignment at 3 p.m., the two were released in their own recognizance. They will have to return to New York on June 16 for an initial hearing on the charges.

The Hawks played in Atlanta on Tuesday night and are in New York where they will take on the Brooklyn Nets Wednesday night. There have been no details released, as of this writing, as to whether or not Sefolosha or Antic have been released by the police.
