Deadlines and Commitments - No. 70

Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

As of noon Tuesday, the Nets still had 20 players on their roster, 13 of them guaranteed and a number of players fighting for those remaining spots.  Crunchtime awaits. Some will make the team.  Some won't but Lionel Hollins believes they all had the opportunity.

"This is what it's all about opportunity," he said, talking about opportunity. "I mean they work hard and do well in practice and you're happy to give them opportunities to go in the game and whether they can make our team or not is irrelevant. It's about earning the right to be on the court and being seen by everyone in the league and overseas or wherever."

So, here's the calendar for them, their agents and their fans.

October 24 -- Expiration day for a $1,120,920 trade exception the Nets received for sending Marquis Teague to the 76ers on October 25 of last year. Nets are not likely to use it, but if there's a roster move involving more than two teams, it could come in handy.

October 24 -- Last day non- and partially guaranteed deals can be cut without incurring pro-rated cap hit.

October 26 -- Roster cutdown day. NBA teams must get down to 15. Normally, at least one cut is made prior to cutdown day.

October 28 -- Opening Night, Nets vs. Bulls at Barclays Center, 7:30 p.m.

October 28 -- If they're still on the roster ... Quincy Miller receives a guaranteed $100,000 bringing his total to $150,000; Ryan Boatright receives $125,000, bringing his total to $200,000; and Willie Reed's deal becomes fully guaranteed at $947,276. (Of course, their fate will actually be decided two days earlier. If they're on the roster on cutdown day, they've made it.)

October 30 -- Nets vs. Spurs at ATT Center, San Antonio. It will be the Spurs home opener and the showcase for their $100 million renovations to ATT Center! 8:30 p.m.

October 31 -- Nets vs. Grizzlies, FedEx Forum, Memphis, 8:00 p.m.

October 31 -- Nets must decide on Sergey Karasev's fourth year option, at $2.5 million. Decision likely to be made before the deadline.

November 1 -- If he's still on the team, Donald Sloan gets $200,000 guarantee.  If cut before this, he receives $50,000.

November 2 -- Nets vs. Bucks, Barclays Center, 7:30 p.m.  The return of Sean Sweeney.

November 15 -- If he's still on the team, Quincy Miller gets an additional $125,000 guarantee, giving him a grand total of $275,000.

December 12 -- Two trade exceptions, including the Nets biggest one expire. They are the $3,326,235 TE acquired in the Andrei Kirilenko trade and the $816,482 TE acquired in the Jorge Gutierrez trade.  For trade purposes, another $100,000 can be added to any TE's value. TE's cannot be combined, but under certain circumstances can be used to facilitate multi-player, multi-team deals.

December 15 -- All free agents signed during the off-season other than Brook Lopez can be traded.

December 23 -- Deron Williams returns to Barclays Center as a member of the Dallas Mavericks.

January 5 -- 10-day contracts can be signed.

January 10 -- All partially guaranteed contracts get fully guaranteed.

January 15 -- Brook Lopez and his max deal can be traded. NOT likely

February 1 -- The HSS Training Center will open around now in Industry City, Brooklyn.

February  18 -- Trade deadline, 3 p.m.
