Kevin Garnett suspended for one game, fined for head-butting Dwight Howard

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

No surprise here.

The NBA announced Tuesday that Kevin Garnett has been suspended for one game --Wednesday's home game vs. the Grizzlies-- and fined $15,000 for his head butt of Dwight Howard in the first quarter of Monday's game vs. the Rockets. Since KG will be suspended without pay, he will miss out on approximately $110,000 in salary.

Garnett was ejected, which triggers an automatic league review.  Howard was assessed a technical foul in the incident.

Here's the press release...

Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Garnett has been suspended one game without pay for initiating an altercation with Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard and headbutting him. Howard was fined $15,000 for pushing Garnett in the neck area. The penalties were announced Tuesday by Rod Thorn, President, Basketball Operations.

The incident occurred with 7:53 remaining in the first quarter of the Rockets’ 113-99 win over the Nets on Monday, Jan. 12, at Barclays Center.

Without Garnett, expect the Nets to start Mason Plumlee and Brook Lopez vs. Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph Wednesday.  KG will presumably be back for Friday's game vs. the Washington Wizards.
