FIBA World Cup: Team USA rolls past the Dominican Republic, 106-71

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

It was another slow start by Team USA, as they held just a 3-point lead after one, but they found their stride, went on a 22-0 run, held a 40-point lead in the fourth and beat the Dominican Republic, 106-71.

USA has now locked down Group C and will automatically advance to the knockout round of 16.

For Team USA, Kenneth Faried once again put up a strong performance, scoring 16 points with 6 rebounds in just over 17 minuets. Anthony Davis added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks, while DeMarcus Cousins went for 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting in 12 minutes.

Mason Plumlee saw some late garbage time minutes, scoring 5 points in just under 7 minutes. He also had one rebound and one assist.

Team USA shot 67 percent from the floor in the game, and forced 26 turnovers on 17 steals. All in all, it was another great performance for USA in a game where, yeah, they were a bit sluggish early, struggling with the Dominican Republic's defense. Still, in the end, they did exactly what was expected and rolled over their group in a quite easy fashion.

Dominican Republic was without Francisco Garcia, as Edgar Sosa had 9 points and 4 assists in 22 minutes.

Up next for the USA, they play the Ukraine on Thursday at 11:30 AM EST.  Joe Wolf, the Nets new big man coach, will be working with Mike Fratello on the Ukrainian sideline.
