After a couple of friendly games where he shot poorly, Jorge Gutierrez shot well vs. Lithuania Saturday in Gran Canaria, but the veteran Lithuanian squad defeated Mexico, 87-74, in Group D play.
Mexico started out fast, going up 27-23 in the first with Gutierrez scoring seven in the quarter. Lithuania was without its best backcourt player, Mantas Kalnietis, who dislocated his shoulder in a friendly game vs. Croatia on Wednesday. But Lithuania figured things out and went up, 45-41, at halftime, holding Mexico to 17. The Lithuanians slowly built up a double digit lead, riding the Raptors' Jonas Valanciunas, who finished 8-of-8.
Gutierrez shot 6-of-9 overall, including 1-of-2 from deep, but he had five turnovers and one assist.
