President Obama has appointed Jason Collins to serve on his Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, the White House said Thursday.
The President has been supportive of Collins since the Nets center first came out last April in a Sports Illustrated essay and interview. At the time, the President said of Collins, ""He seems like a terrific young man, and I told him I couldn't be prouder," Obama said shortly after Collins's announcement.
Since then, First Lady Michelle Obama has invited Collins to sit with her during the State of the Union and Collins was invited to the White House state dinner honoring French President Hollande.
Among the others name to the council was recently named Hall of Famer (and Collins' Nets teammate) Alonzo Mourning.
