Devin Ebanks has been suspended five games for violating the anti-drug program, the NBA D-League announced on Thursday. The D-League didnt provide any details. The Springfield Armor forward is averaging 23.3 points per game in the D-League and is viewed as one of the top three NBA prospects in the league. The Armor traded for Ebanks last month.
With only seven games left in the D-League season and little to no chance Springfield will make the playoffs, It's uncertain Ebanks will return. In fact, the Armor on Thursday signed former Iona College forward Alejo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez played in seven games with the Armor during the 2011-12 season, averaging 0.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game with Springfield during the team’s Eastern Division Championship season. The former Iona Gael has played professionally in the Dominican Republic, Spain and Germany before a stint with the Canton Charge this past preseason. In one preseason game with the Charge this season, Rodriguez scored three points and pulled down five boards over nine minutes.
Ebanks, who spent three years with the Lakers, was in training camp with the Dallas Mavericks this fall, but was waived before the start of the season.
Rodriguez played 11 minutes but scored only four points as Springfield lost 107-104 to Erie.
The Armor's two returning NBA players, Adonis Thomas and Lorenzo Brown, played well. Thomas finished with 18 points and Brown 20. The Armor's two bigs dominated again. Jeff Foote had 20 points and 21 rebounds, while Willie Reed had 19 and 19. Khalid Wyatt finished with 22 as he led a failed comeback.
