Sundiata Gaines will not be returning to the Nets fold. The 6'2" Gaines was picked up by the Springfield Armor last week, then traded to the Reno Bighorns for a third round pick and the rights to Samardo Samuels, the former New Jersey high school star. The deal was agreed to Tuesday, as reported by D-League Digest.
Samuels is playing for A.C. Milano in Italy but if he returns --and his minutes are shrinking-- to play in the D-League, the Armor will hold his rights. Samuels is 6'9", 260 pound power forward who's played in 104 NBA games, all for the Cavaliers, with career averages of 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds. He's 25.
Gaines, like the Armor's Darius Johnson-Odom, is a shooting point guard who's shuttled back and forth among the NBA, D-League and international leagues, finding his greatest success in the D-League.
