Deadlines and Commitments No. 57

The Nets present will crash into its future over the next six months. The Nets have reportedly been active in the trade market and their 2015 first round pick must be traded with the surging Hawks, as part of the Joe Johnson trade.

Here's the calendar...

January 5 -- 10-day contracts can be signed. As of now, the Nets have no roster openings.

January 10 -- All contracts are guaranteed for remainder of the season. The Nets currently have two non-guaranteed deals, Darius Morris and Brandon Davies, and two partially guaranteed deals, Jerome Jordan ($100,000) and Cory Jefferson ($75,000). Expect one or more to be waived or traded before this date.

February 13-15 -- 2015 NBA All-Star (Brooklyn and New York). Big doings at Barclays Center as the Three point shootout and the Slam Dunk contest will take place in Brooklyn as well as the D-League All-Star Game.

February 19 -- 2015 NBA Trade Deadline (3 p.m. ET). Things will heat up in the days before as GMs and scouts gather in New York for All-Star Weekend.  Nets have three trade exceptions they can use at or before the deadline, worth $3.4 million, $1.2 million and $916,000.

March 1 -- Playoff Eligibility Waiver Deadline. Players have to be waived by March 1 to be eligible for another team's playoff roster, a date informally known as the buyout deadline. Players who are overseas on March 1 can be signed.

April 15 -- Last Day of 2014-15 Regular Season. This is the day the Nets luxury taxes will be calculated. Currently, the number is $24 million. The Nets would like to reduce that total.

April 18 -- 2015 NBA Playoffs begin.

May 19 -- 2015 NBA Draft Lottery. If the Nets don't make the playoffs, the swap between the Hawks and Nets could make for a miserable evening.  Since the swap has no protection, if the Nets are in the lottery and move up, the Hawks will get their pick.

June 25 -- 2015 NBA Draft. The Nets will likely have the Hawks pick, somewhere in the 20's, in the first round and their own pick in the second round.  No word yet on where it will be held. The last four drafts have been held in the Nets home arena, two at Prudential Center, two at Barclays Center.
