Brooklyn Nets waive Willie Reed

The Nets have waived training camp signee forward/center Willie Reed, the team announced Thursday morning.

Reed averaged four points and four rebounds in two preseason games. Reed also was on the Nets D-League team, the Springfield Armor, as recently as this last season.

Brooklyn's roster now stands at 16, and the team has to decided on three more non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed contracts: Jerome Jordan, who is likely going to make the roster and who will get $100,000 if on the Opening Day roster; Jorge Gutierrez, who impressed in Boston Wednesday night and has a $25,000 guarantee; and Cory Jefferson, the 60th pick in the draft last June who has a $75,000 guarantee. They must waive at least one more player to get to the league limit of 15 players, but they may waive two of the three.  Billy King has hinted the team could carry 14 or even 13 players. The Nets started last season with 14 players.

Players on non-guaranteed deals or with no salary protection, like Reed, must be waived by 5 p.m. Saturday. If not waived by then, they start counting towards the cap. Rosters must be set by 5 p.m. on Monday
