Brook Lopez, Nets brass upbeat about recovery

Brook Lopez was at practice Friday, in street clothes, but without a boot, seemingly upbeat after getting the word that he'll be out for 10-to-14 days with a mild mid-foot sprain on his surgically repaired right foot.  Why so upbeat, as he and Nets brass noted, it could be a lot worse.

"It was not a fun flight home," Lopez said of the flight from China to New York, worried that he had broken his foot once again in Sunday's game in Beijing. "I wanted to set down and get to the doctor immediately. It was long for me … I stayed up all night, all the way until I got back for my appointment at 1:45 [in the afternoon] the next day at my place. I was definitely thinking about it."

As Rod Boone tweeted his GM isn't that worried either...

In fact, King said there will be no minutes restrictions on Lopez once he returns...

For the Nets, missing Lopez for a few preseason games is much preferred to losing him for an extended period --and possibly for good-- due to another fracture.

Lopez mingled freely with beat reporters at the Nets Practice Facility, expressing his relief.

The Nets center will continue to work out just not on the court.

As for who will replace Lopez in the three preseason games over the next five days, Lionel Hollins said he's made a decision.

Kevin Garnett (upset stomach) didn't practice Friday either.
